A show created in November 2024 at the Théâtre jeunesse Les Gros Becs

Tonight, there’s electricity in the air. And Harold, so happy to have found the perfect branches to beat time in keeping with his excitement, goes too far, yet again.
When he bangs on the window, deaf to his mother’s warnings, everything explodes: the windowpane, the storm, and her anger!

Confined to his room as punishment, Harold broods.
But suddenly, a most unusual orchestra conductor appears above the neighbourhood roofs.
When he comes to Harold’s window and invites him to join the musicians who have gathered in the clouds to play the symphony of the storm, the little boy can’t believe his eyes or his ears!

What if, in the midst of the storm, the conductor could help him understand what is stirring inside him… and teach him to listen so that he can be heard?

A contemporary tale, Les musiciens de l’orage, inspired by the eponymous book by Céline Person and Juliette Barbanègre, takes children on a voyage into immensity: that which lies above and that which lies within.

A word from the directors

As a child, I was always told I was too fragile.
I was shielded from shocks.
I was shielded from risks.
I was shielded from my own body.
So I grew up with the fear of breaking.
Until I was introduced to theater.
On stage, my fears were transformed.
My body became strength, a mirror, pride.
It was like an electric jolt.

As a child, I was always told I was doing too much.
I was too sensitive.
I laughed too loud.
I went too far.
So I grew up trying to tone it down.
Until I was told that everything I tried to suppress
Would one day become the source of my power.
It was a lightning strike.

Today, as adults,
We are sensitive people
Who take risks
And always seek to go further.

We watch the children around us,
The ones told they’re too restless.
And what if, by inviting them to the theater,
We held up a mirror?
What if we gave them back their power?
The power to make it rain or shine,
To become electric, thunderstruck?

Press

“Marianne Marceau and Maxime Robin, in both direction and adaptation, take audiences on a journey into the heart of music and art, deeply intertwined with emotion. […] The scenes flow seamlessly, playing with various perspectives and shadow effects that captivate the audience. […] The children’s response is immediate: they get involved, clap their hands, and join in this spontaneous symphony. […] The music (Frédéric Brunet), which is present throughout the piece, becomes a character in its own right, full of meaning and serving as a key witness to a journey of self-discovery.”

Marie Fradette, Le Devoir, November 14, 2024

“The direction by Marianne Marceau and Maxime Robin is varied, inventive, and entertaining. It’s a success, and undoubtedly the highlight of this 45-minute performance […]. It’s dynamic, with music, rhythm, and a creative crossover of several artistic disciplines […].”

Yves Leclerc, Le Carrefour de Québec, November 15, 2024

“The sets created to represent this aerial view are very well done! The children are impressed each time Frédérique Bradet cuts through the clouds to reveal a new house and its residents.”
